Bearsden / Kelvinside / LEAP / Merchistonian Points Competition

Sunday 17 March saw 24 curlers from the above clubs venture onto the ice at Greenacres to challenge their skills in specific shots.

The competition took the format of each curler having two attempts at nine specific shot disciplines, ranging from guards and draws to tap-backs, double take-outs and drawing through the port! A maximum of 36 points could be obtained if each discipline was correctly executed twice. Enthusiastic encouragement was given from those waiting in turn to deliver the stones and a great camardarie was quickly built up. So much so that additional sweepers assisted those newer members to curling from the LEAP Club.

After two hours on the ice, easter eggs were distributed to all, then the Prize Winners were announced. All players had been allocated to one of four teams, Clubs, Diamonds Hearts and Spades. The first prizes were awarded to the team with the highest number of points. The winning team was Spades which included our own John Dunlop. Kelvinside then awarded their trophies and prizes to their club members. They also awarded a prize to the highest scoring guest at the competition, this being Alison Barr with 24 points. Only a few of the Kelvinside members scored more than 24 points.

With her 24 points, Alison had the highest points gained by a Bearsden member and was presented with the David Murray Quaich by Ross.

Our thanks go to Jim Whittle, Secretary of Kelvinside CC who organised this slick, fast moving fun competition, one which we would hope that more Bearsden members participate in next year.

Well done, Alison, it is good to see a new name on the Quaich.

John’s prize for being in the winning team!
