Club Members Success

Great to see our club members out and about playing in Bonspiels and Championships with other Clubs:-

The National Gateway Bonspiel was held in Stranraer on 22/23 March where two of our Bearsden curlers were playing – Eli and Stefan, supported by Emily.   There were teams from Inverness, Stirling, Fife, Moray, Edinburgh and Glasgow.  Eli and Stefan were playing in the Glasgow Gateway rink and finished Runners Up in this National Challenge.  Well done Eli and Stefan.  The winning team was from Stirling Gateway.

Club member, Geraldine Murphy, has also been busy curling competitively in the Irish Mixed Playdowns held in Dumfries on 8/9 March.  Four rinks competed to decide which team would represent Ireland in the World Mixed Curling Championships to be held in October 2025.  Despite winning their game against Bill Gray (former World Senior Champion) they were not so fortunate in other games. Well done to Geraldine for competing and good luck for next year.

On Sunday 16 March, club member Alison played for the Irish Curling Association (ICA) in their annual competition against the Ardrossan Castle Curling Club. The Ardrossan – Belfast Trophy was first played for in 1861 between Ardrossan Castle and various Irish Clubs. Irish curling clubs were active until 1904. The trophy was then not played for again until 1995 when the competition was reinstated following the establishment of the ICA in 1993.

The game on Sunday was very close with the ICA retaining the trophy 9-7.
